Youth Court Assessment Program

Connecting Youth to the Right Support at the Right Time

The Youth court offers a monthly assessment service to enhance support to youth in conflict with the law who have mental health concerns. Northstar psychiatrists and psychologists are central to achieving early identification of mental health issues and to fast-tracking eligible youth’s connections to community-based prevention and intervention programs and services.

Referrals are made through the Youth Mental Health Court Worker, and we work closely with them throughout this process. Additionally, we work with the Youth Court, the Office of the Crown Attorney, Youth Justice Services, Child Welfare (CAS), mental health and addiction services like the Durham Mental Health Services and Pinewood Centre, and Housing and Community Supports like the Salvation Army to make the necessary connections to programs and services.
