Our Story

Our Mission
We empower and engage young people, families and communities through collaboration, innovation and excellence.
What Sets Us Apart
At Northstar, our dedicated staff are deeply embedded in the community, working to connect with at-risk youth and meet them where they are. By providing intensive one-to-one outreach support, our team is able to build trusting relationships and offer tailored assistance that addresses the unique challenges these young individuals face.
Our Journey: 45 Years of Service in Durham Region
For 45 years, Northstar, formerly known as Durham Family Court Clinic (DFCC), has been a beacon of hope and support in the Durham Region. Established in 1980, our organization has dedicated itself to enhancing the well-being of children, youth, and families involved in the legal system. Over the decades, we have evolved, expanded, and deepened our commitment to fostering a healthy and safe community.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Northstar
As we look to the future, we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. Our recent rebranding to Northstar reflects our vision for growth and innovation. The name “Northstar” symbolizes guidance, direction, and a steadfast commitment to leading our community towards a brighter future. This change is not just about a new name; it represents our renewed dedication to expanding our services, embracing new opportunities, and continuing to be a trusted resource for those in need.
Why the Name Change?
The decision to rebrand as Northstar was driven by our desire to better reflect our mission and the evolving needs of our community. The name “Northstar” captures the essence of our role as a guiding light, helping individuals and families find their way through challenging times. It also signifies our commitment to innovation and excellence, as we strive to provide the highest quality services and support to those we serve.
